International Protection and Accommodation

<<<Back to Immigration and Ireland

International Protection (also known as asylum) is granted to people who have come to Ireland to escape persecution in their own country or cannot return to their own country because of a well-founded fear for their safety.

There is a strict process in place to assess each application for international protection and that process is compatible with national and international asylum law.

While a person has their application processed, they are entitled to accommodation and other supports.
