Assistant Secretary, Public Transport

The Public Transport Pillar comprises six Principal Officer-led areas where the main areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading programmes of investment, in collaboration with the transport agencies and local authorities, in public transport infrastructure and services, to deliver the National Planning Framework’s (NPF) National Strategic Outcomes(NSOs);
  • Developing and assisting implementation of policy for each area, including inputting to broader Government policy and Programme for Government initiatives (e.g. public transport, national spatial planning, and climate change);
  • Overseeing the State agencies’ delivery of the Government’s public transport investment plans under the National Development Plan and Project Ireland 2040;
  • Governance oversight of State bodies involved in the public transport sector; and
  • Ensuring a strategic analytical and research resource to support the Department, ensuring that policy and programme development, and evaluation is evidence-based and objective-led.
