The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed/re-appointed the following as members of the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland from 18 June 2019 to 17 June 2023:
Mr. Roy Hogan is a community pharmacist having graduated from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, before completing his training with the National Pharmaceutical Association in 1995. Roy worked as a locum and full time in a Dublin city addiction services clinic before acquiring his own pharmacy in Dublin in 2000, which he operates under the Life Pharmacy brand. Roy has served on the community pharmacy committee of the Irish Pharmacy Union for nine years and is a founding shareholder of Independent Life Pharmacy PLC (Life Pharmacy).
Mr. Mark Jordan is a community pharmacist based in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Mark is part of the Pharmabuddy team, providing online resources for pharmacists, and host to the Pharmabuddy podcast. Mark also writes a monthly column as Gaeilge for the Irish Pharmacist. He is passionate about education, health and nutrition.
Professor Brian Kirby is a pharmacy graduate and scholar of Trinity College, Dublin, where he completed a PhD in neuropharmacology. Following a post-doctoral research post at the University of Oxford, he joined the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 2003 and established the pharmacology teaching within the BSc(Pharm) degree in the School of Pharmacy. He has contributed significantly to both undergraduate teaching and also postgraduate, MSc and PhD, teaching in RCSI.
Between 2011 and 2014, he was seconded to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he contributed to the establishment of the new RCSI Medical School at Perdana University, as Lead in Clinical Pharmacology. He then returned to the RCSI where he was appointed Associate Professor of Pharmacology in the School of Pharmacy. In addition, he was appointed as Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2017, where he has significant research collaboration. In October 2018, he was appointed the Interim Head of the RCSI School of Pharmacy.
Ms. Muireann Ní Shuilleabháin is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and is a Hospital Pharmacist with over 25 years broad based experience in Ireland and the United States of America (California and Washington states). Her overall remit is in Medication Safety and she has further experience in Healthcare Management, Clinical Governance, Clinical Pharmacy, Consultancy Pharmacy, Accreditation processes, Pharmacy Practice and Project Leadership.
Ms. Joanne Kissane graduated from the School of Pharmacy, Trinity College, Dublin in 2000. She is the Head of Operational Excellence for LloydsPharmacy Ireland Limited, and was previously Superintendent Pharmacist for the group for seven years. In 2017 she completed a Masters in Quality and Safety in Healthcare Management with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Ms Kissane has been elected as President of the Council.
Mr. Fintan Foy is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP). He is the former CEO of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland and before that had worked for 18 years in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and held a number of senior management roles. Fintan has been involved extensively in setting up undergraduate medical schools and postgraduate training programmes in the Gulf, Middle East and South East Asia. At present, Fintan is Chairman of the International Medical Graduate Training Programme which is a partnership arrangement between the Health Services Executive of Ireland and the Forum of Irish Postgraduate Training Bodies to provide structured training for overseas medical graduates. He was appointed as Secretary to the Forum of Postgraduate Training bodies in June 2015.
Mr. Graham Knowles originally trained as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in the UK. He held a variety of operational management and strategic roles in the NHS, including Acting Director of one of the largest Health Authorities in the Country. He has an M.Sc. in Care Policy and Management from London Guildhall University and an M.B.A (Health Executive) from Keele University. Until recently, Graham was the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Hospital Donnybrook. Graham is also currently serving as Chair of the Board of Directors of UL Hospital Group.
Mr. Paul Turpin is a consultant, board member and Chartered Director. He has worked as a governance specialist with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) and served as a board member of public and private organisations. He has worked in investment management and as a stockbroker. Previously, he worked in the public sector including as economic advisor to the Department of Industry and Commerce, head of the NESC staff and with the European Commission. He holds an MA (Economics), MBA and Diplomas in Corporate Governance.
Ms. Ann Sheehan is a Business Development Specialist and a member of CORU’s Optical Registration Board. She has served over eight years as a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, and is currently a member of its Preliminary Proceedings Committee. Ann also acts as an independent advocate with SAGE Third Age Ireland.
Ms. Geraldine Crowley is the Assistant National Director for Primary Care, Strategy & Planning (HSE). She studied in the University of Limerick and holds a Masters in Project Management and a B.A. (Public Administration). She has extensive experience working in the HSE, in her current role and previously, as Head of Planning, Performance & Programme Management in the Social Care Division. Recently, Geraldine has been involved in GP Contractual Reform and Service Development. Geraldine has been appointed to the PSI Council as an HSE nominee.
