Advisory Counsel Grade I – Group B is responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing the delivery of legal services within their assigned Advisory Counsel group. This includes oversight of legal advice provided to Government Departments, support for the legislative drafting process, and contributions to litigation where required.
The role includes:
- managing the provision of legal advice across the group in response to requests from Government Departments and Offices
- supporting and advising on the drafting of legislation, ensuring that proposals comply with constitutional, EU, and international obligations
- overseeing legal work relating to Education, Child Protection, Asylum, Immigration and Citizenship matters, the core legal areas assigned to Group B
- ensuring that all legal services are delivered efficiently and with a focus on value for money
- participating as a member of the Office’s Management Committee, contributing to organisational governance and strategic decision‑making
- collaborating closely with the Chief State Solicitor’s Office and the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel to ensure coordinated legal support across advisory, litigation, and legislative functions.
This role forms a key leadership position within the Advisory Counsel structure, ensuring high‑quality legal advice and effective support for the implementation of Government policy.
