The Office of Public Works is undertaking the construction of a new Border Control Post – known as Terminal 7 which will provide the necessary permanent infrastructure at Rosslare Europort to comply with Customs, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) and official food controls as a consequence of Brexit. Rosslare Europort will be undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades over the next 28 months. These works will ensure the Port continues to play a critical economic role for the area and region.
The upgrades will also support future growth planned at the Port. They will be the most significant in the Port’s history and will bring about much needed benefits for those that use and live within the vicinity of the Port as it continues to expand.
The works will consist of various phases of construction that will deliver new and improved facilities, entry/exit access and significant upgrading of the infrastructure across the Port in several areas. Initial ground works have commenced in preparation of the substantial works planned later this year. These ground works will also ensure that the Port can continue to operate safely and efficiently for all users for the duration of the substantial works that will take place.
While the ground works which have commenced will not have a direct impact on the current public access to the Port, we feel it important to communicate and keep you updated. The initial ground works will consist of the following;
1.There will be a temporary closure on the Rosslare Europort private access road to Ballygeary Harbour (small boat harbour) with an alternative access for authorised people affected agreed and in place. The temporary road closure is necessary to accommodate essential upgrade works that are planned to be carried out on the existing access road. The road will be closed for approximately six weeks. Please see plan below showing the location of the road closure indicated in blue.
2. The land to the west of Rosslare Europort will also be used on a temporary basis to accommodate the contractor’s compound and a temporary trailer yard during the construction of Rosslare Europort Terminal 7 and Enabling Works. The extent of this land is outlined in red on the diagram below.
The duration of the overall works will be approximately 28 months from commencement. We will continue to communicate regularly throughout the project to keep you updated as changes occur.
