The Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Ossian Smyth, has launched a consultation on the mid-term review of the National Cyber Security Strategy.
The National Cyber Security Strategy, published in 2019, is a five-year whole-of-government strategy aimed at enhancing the security and resilience of government systems and critical national infrastructure. The strategy sets out a range of collaborative measures to enhance the cyber security and resilience of public bodies, providers of essential services, businesses and households, to support the continued development of the cyber security industry and research community, and to ensure Ireland plays an active role in international discussions on the security and stability of a free and open cyberspace.
Minister Smyth said:
"Ireland has made great strides in enhancing the security and resilience of government systems and critical national infrastructure since 2019 through the actions taken under the National Cyber Security Strategy. While Ireland’s cyber-resilience has certainly been tested in the three years since the strategy was published, we must continue to build our cyber security capacity and position Ireland as a digital leader at the heart of European and global digital developments.
"I am very pleased to be launching the public consultation on the National Cyber Security Strategy Mid-Term Review. While it is important to take stock of the achievements to date, I am especially interested in looking to the future and the steps we can take moving forward. I encourage all stakeholder to share their perspectives to shape the remaining years of the strategy and our cyber security vision beyond."
The consultation paper provides a brief account of progress to date in delivering the measures under the 2019 strategy and poses possible future measures for the remaining years of the strategy. Stakeholders are invited to assess actions taken to date and the proposed future actions, and to provide their views.
On conclusion of this consultation, the submissions will be reviewed, with further consideration by government departments and agencies ahead of finalisation of the mid-term review.
The consultation can be viewed on the department's website.
Consultation inputs can be submitted to cyberconsult@decc.gov.ie
The public consultation will be open until Tuesday, 31 January 2023.
