Seminar on employment opportunities in the European Union for Irish-speaking people to be held online on 1 November by the European Commission and the Irish Government.
The European Commission will hold an online event in partnership with the Irish Government next Wednesday, 1 November 2023, as part of this year's Oireachtas na Samhna.
This is a one day seminar for people looking to apply for Irish language jobs in the institutions of the European Union. Information about these opportunities will be given at the seminar and concrete practical advice will be provided in workshops regarding the preparation of applications for these opportunities. The seminar is particularly aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a career in translation, interpreting, proofreading, legal linguistics or a career as a language assistant.
Practical workshops will be held as part of the seminar in which the participants will be given an insight into the worthwhile work that takes place in the European Union in relation to the Irish language. The Irish-speaking community in the European Union has increased significantly in recent years, but opportunities will continue to arise for new applicants in the coming years.
Speaking about the seminar this year, Minister of State Patrick O'Donovan said:
"Promoting the use of the Irish language in Europe is a major priority of the Irish Government. In recent years, the status of the Irish language has improved significantly in the European Union, and this is a great source of satisfaction to me.
"In this regard, my department has implemented various initiatives to increase the Irish language resources available to support language services in the EU.
"This seminar provides young people with an opportunity to gain a valuable insight into working life on the continent, to receive training and advice from the institutions, and to add to their skills, providing them with improved prospects in recruitment competitions in the future."
