The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue, has announced the launch of a recruitment competition for the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer to the Office of Fairness and Transparency in the Agri-Food Supply Chain.
Minister McConalogue stated:
“This recruitment process is an important step in the establishment of this new office. By having the competition in parallel with the legislative process, I want to ensure that the Office is up and running as early as possible.
"In addition to taking over enforcement of the European Unfair Trading Practices Directive from the interim Enforcement Authority located in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the new Office will also provide a price and market reporting function on all aspects of the agriculture and food supply chain.”
The closing date is 4pm on Friday 21 October 2022.
The Minister concluded:
“The establishment of the new Office is a priority for me as Minister and I am confident it will be an advocate and provide a voice for farmers, fishers, growers and other food businesses all along the agricultural and food supply chain.
"When the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has completed its pre-legislative scrutiny of the Bill, which I understand will happen this week, I hope to progress this legislation as soon as possible, following examination of the Committee’s recommendations.”
Complaints relating to unfair trading practice can currently be made in confidence to the Unfair Trading Practices Enforcement Authority.
