The Minister of State with Reponsibility for the Gaeltacht, Patrick O’Donovan, today (28 June 2023) announced on his visit to Ráth Chairn in the Meath Gaeltacht, that he has awarded a contract to Barr Feabhais Teo. for the review of the first 10 language plans under Acht na Gaeltachta 2012.
This project, which has a budget of up to €92,500, will ensure that an independent review will take place into the operation of the associated language plans to make certain that the most useful feedback possible is available about the effectiveness of the plans.
In Ráth Chairn, Minister of State O’Donovan turned the sod on the location of the new gTeic that will be built in the area. The Minister said:
“I’m happy to be here to turn the sod on the new gTeic for Gaeltacht na Mí. This facility will provide opportunities for local people here in the Gaeltacht area, and will inspire people to return to the Gaeltacht, or even to start a business here. Developments like this are very timely, as we have seen new possibilities open up in recent years in the areas of remote work and hybrid work.”
Údarás na Gaeltachta revealed the gTeic concept in 2018, before the COVID-19 pandemic, with a new emphasis on rural remote working. The concept of providing digital workspaces was designed to facilitate start-ups, design development and remote working opportunities for those who wish to live in Gaeltacht areas.
On his visit, Minister of State O’Donovan also took the opportunity to visit the Childcare Centre in the area, as well as the offices of Comharchumann Ráth Chairn, Foras na Gaeilge and Glór na nGael.
The Minister of State said:
“It gives me great pleasure to have had this opportunity to visit the Ráth Chairn Gaeltacht. It is great to see so many activities, organisations and people here, working hand-in-hand to support this vibrant Gaeltacht area. It is obvious that the Irish language gets tremendous support here and I congratulate everyone who is engaged in that ongoing work.”
