Minister Martin announces public consultation as part of the development of the Culture, Creativity & Climate Policy Framework
Catherine Martin, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, has today launched an online survey seeking views of members of the public to help in the development of Ireland’s new Culture, Creativity and Climate Policy Framework.
The online consultation is open until 5pm on Friday, 22 March 2024.
The creative and cultural sector can play an important role in climate action by contributing to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, embedding climate considerations throughout its operations and leveraging its visibility and broad appeal to diverse audiences across the country. This policy framework is intended to bring overall strategic direction to climate action in the creative and cultural fields, and to set out the roles that the sector can play combatting climate change.
This public consultation builds on focused sectoral and stakeholder consultation across the culture and creative sector. The short online survey asks participants about their opinions on what role the culture sector can play in taking climate action, and how the sector can be supported through this.
It also asks participants to identify structural and policy challenges to effective climate action.
Speaking today Minister Martin said:
“The culture sector can play a pivotal role in driving positive change. The sector is unique in its ability to raise awareness of issues, to build understanding, and to develop inspiring creative solutions. I would encourage people to take a few minutes to complete this survey and have their say on how the culture and creativity sector can be supported to play its role in tackling the climate emergency”.
