Speaking at the award ceremony, Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, Patrick O'Donovan, said this:
"My congratulations to the winners today and to all the entrants who took part in this year's competition. This competition is a great opportunity for secondary school students to think about the employment opportunities in Europe for those with a high standard of Irish. With the high quality of entries we see in this competition every year, I have no doubt that some of the names we see here today will become our colleagues in the European institutions in the years to come."
Also present at today's ceremony were Seán Hade, Head of the Irish Department at the European Commisson. The Young Translators’ Competition is a joint initiative between the European Commission and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media which is running since 2018.
