As part of a 2-year Engineering Graduate Development Programme you will get to join a team of skilled professionals and have the opportunity to contribute to an exciting variety of challenging projects.
The Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Engineering Section’s main function is the design and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems in new and existing buildings managed by the OPW on behalf of the State. From prehistoric sites to new build, OPW properties span the story of Ireland while also creating the heritage of the future as we continue to add to the State’s contemporary building portfolio.
The drive to reduce carbon and energy usage in our buildings to meet Ireland’s Climate Action targets is having a significant impact on M&E Engineering work, in both the design of new buildings and the retrofitting of existing buildings.
If you are a successful candidate you will receive training and practical experience to assist you towards achieving the registered professional title of Chartered Engineer.

You may be involved in designing a wide array of systems including communications networks, heating, water, ventilation, air conditioning, lifts, electrical distribution systems, lighting as well as life safety and security systems. The sustainable design of new buildings and whole life carbon analysis using computer modelling is also an area where candidates may be involved.
The minimum requirement is an Engineers Ireland accredited Bachelor (Honours) Degree (Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications) qualification in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering Discipline.
Candidates graduating in 2024 are eligible to apply. Recent engineering graduates (since 2022) are also welcome to apply.
You will have excellent technical and problem solving capabilities, with good verbal and written communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
Proficiency in AutoCad and MS Office will also be an advantage.
