Does Dublin City Council use the PPS Number at present?
Yes.
For what purpose(s)?
For a variety of purposes including Casual Trading Licences; Driver Licences; Higher Education grants; Provision of housing services; Assessment of rents; Checking for rent allowance claims; Claiming tax-relief at source on mortgages; HR purposes; Claiming sick pay and other benefits; Payroll system; Correspondence with Revenue Commissioners, P60's etc. Assessment for waivers. Collection of NPPR charges.
Does Dublin City Council exchange the PPS Number with any external body? If so please name the relevant bodies and state the purpose(s) of the exchange.
What future plans has your County Council for the use of the PPS Number?
Subject to approval from the Data Protection Commissioner Dublin City Council proposes to use PPS Numbers in connection with the Central Broker System currently being developed by the LGMA. Voter .ie and online voter registration system currently under development will use the PPS number to verify the identity of persons that register to vote.

Yes. The same level of security is allied to the PPS number as to other sensitive personal data held by the council.
