The Minister for Rural and Community Development has ultimate oversight and responsibility for the department achieving its objectives, as set out in the Action Plan for Rural Development and the Framework Policy for Local Community Development in Ireland in Ireland.
The minister also ensures that the department carries out its mission, which is “to promote rural and community development and to support vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities throughout Ireland”.
The minister is the ultimate decider of departmental policy within the overall context of government policy. The minister is also responsible for the oversight of the Charities Regulator.
