Responsibility at Assistant Secretary level for the following areas:
The Data Compliance and Support Unit supports the department in being compliant with data and information regulations (FOI, Records Managment, GDPR and the Data Protection Act) and provides corporate support services to business units on these matters generally. It also leads the implementation of many elements of the department's Data Strategy.
The Statistics Unit is responsible for the collection and analysis of statistical data and trends relating to education.
The Public Service Reform Programme Office is responsible for supporting the programme of reform across the education and training sector.
The Central Policy Unit co-ordinates a range of cross-departmental policy issues and also supports research and evaluation in the department.
The Legal Services Unit advises the Minister and the department on legal issues and manages litigation involving the Minister. The unit also coordinates the department's legislation programme.
The International Co-operation Unit manages the department’s engagement with international partners, including the European Union, Council of Europe, OECD and UNESCO, to enhance international policy co-operation in education and training. It also has responsibility for policy development and co-ordination in the promotion of Ireland as a centre for international education.
