The National Cultural Policy section provides policy support to the cultural sector. There are currently three policy areas of focus:
1. National Policy Framework on Culture, Creativity and Climate Action
2. The establishment of an advisory committee on restitution and repatriation
3. The establishment of an advisory committee on the representation of women’s stories in the national cultural institutions
The section will also be responsible for reviewing Culture 2025 – the National Cultural Policy Framework.
The International Cultural Policy section has responsibility for the coordination and delivery of Ireland's engagement with EU cultural policy; Ireland’s engagement with a number of UNESCO cultural initiatives such as the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions; providing supports to Ireland’s UNESCO Creative Cities designations; and representing Ireland on a number of international bodies such as the British Irish Council Creative Industries Work Sector and EUNIC Global.
The aim of the NCI Capital Investment Programme section is to progress the cultural capital programme as set out in the National Development Plan. The NCICIP Unit is responsible for the oversight and provision of funding on a number of capital projects including the major redevelopment of the Crawford Art Gallery, the National Concert Hall, the National History Museum, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Chester Beatty Library, IMMA as well as other sites of the National Museum of Ireland, including the Collections Resource Centre in Swords and the Museum of Archaeology - Kildare Street.
