Responsibility at Head of Business Unit level for the overall planning legislative framework and associated regulations and planning guidelines, as part of the overall Divisional objective of ensuring that the appropriate strategic policy and legislative planning framework is in place to promote sustainable economic growth and balanced regional development. In carrying out its work, the Principal Officer works in close collaboration with the Environmental Planning Policy Section and the Chief Planner and his team as well as providing support and expertise to other Units and Divisions in advancing relevant planning-related aspects of the Department’s strategic business agenda. A critical part of the role is the appropriate functioning of the planning process, including planning process resourcing, planning system ongoing review and streamlining of planning through measures such as legislative change and e-planning. While the Section currently deals with governance issues for An Bord Pleanála this will move to the Planning Governance and Oversight Section during 2019. However, the Section will continue to have important interactions with the Board in relation to the functioning of the planning system, its overall coherence and the legislative and policy framework.
