Volunteer Locally

From: Department of Rural and Community Development

How volunteering centres work

Volunteer Centres in 21 counties receive government funding, as well as a number of organisations such as Volunteer Ireland and Young Social Innovators.

In addition, funding goes to Volunteering Information Services which allow for volunteering to be promoted in counties without a fulltime Volunteer Centre.

These centres or information centres can give you advice about:

  • what volunteering opportunities are available in your local area
  • information about the charities working in your area and the work they do
  • what you can do to get involved
  • advice from people who currently volunteer
