The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to access records held by government departments and certain public bodies.

You will receive an acknowledgement of your application within 10 working days. A decision on your application will normally be made within 20 working days.
If your request is refused, you may ask for an internal review of that decision. You will be told the result of this review within 15 working days.

There is no charge for personal or non personal requests.
Other charges may be applied for the time spent finding records and for any photocopying costs incurred by the department in providing you with the material requested. It is very unlikely that any fees will be charged in respect of personal records, except where a large number of records are involved. Section 27 of the FOI Act provides for fees.
