Walks Scheme Information For Landowners

From: Department of Rural and Community Development

How the Walks Scheme works

The Walks Scheme is a national scheme involving all landholders on national waymarked ways, looped walking routes and heritage routes, along with other trails that have been approved by the National Trails Office. It ensures that national waymarked ways and priority walks that cross public and private lands are maintained and accessible.

How to contact your local Rural Recreation Officer

You can contact your local Rural Recreation officer if you have any questions about:

  • work associated with the rollout of the National Walks Scheme
  • the general upkeep, upgrade and rerouting of trails
  • the development, marketing and promotion of trails and key walking destinations, including media and trade visits
  • developing trails and assisting in organising walking festivals
  • assisting with the implementation of the ‘Leave No Trace’ initiative

If you are a landowner and have questions about the Walks Scheme, please contact your Rural Recreation Officer here.
