For those who wish to move to the new permission or remain under the temporary protection permission, it is important to note that the Government has agreed to phase out accommodation that has been provided to people from Ukraine since 2022, commencing with those in commercially contracted accommodation provided by the State.
These changes to the accommodation model will be introduced on a phased basis, with information and support provided to residents. The withdrawal of State-contracted commercial accommodation will commence in August 2026 and be completed by March 2027.
The Irish Red Cross (IRC) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) will provide information and support to help individuals progress towards greater independence.
Webinars will be available alongside case-by-case support offering personalised guidance and planning for those considering longer term integration in Ireland and transitioning out of state accommodation. Further details of information sessions and supports by the Irish Red Cross and the International Organisation for Migration will be available in June 2026
Further details on the monthly phasing of contract terminations between August 2026 and March 2027 will be shared in due course. Those impacted in the first phase (August 2026) will be notified in the coming weeks. Others will be notified as soon as possible but not less than three months in advance. Individuals will then need to make their own accommodation arrangements or alternative plans.
Once individuals leave State-contracted commercial accommodation and transition to independent accommodation arrangements, they will be entitled to standard social welfare assistance, equivalent to Irish citizens, subject to meeting the eligibility conditions.
The Department is currently assessing the properties it hopes to continue using to accommodate people in the longer term and will be in touch with relevant providers in the coming weeks.
