On his final afternoon in Korea, Minister McConalogue continued his programme of meetings with Bord Bia client companies and their customers.
Minister McConalogue was particularly pleased to meet with Flahavans who are now one of the major oatmeal brands in South Korea and a great example of an Irish success story in the country.
Minister McConalogue noted:
“Tillage in Ireland is a major contributor to our food and drinks sector, producing high quality ingredients such as the oats used by Flahavans. I was pleased to see the success of Flavahans on a number of fronts.
“As an Origin Green founding member their work and activities to become more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable are validated through measurement, audit and inspection. Origin Green provides Flahavans customers worldwide with assurances of their commitment to sustainability. This fully organic product also contributes to meeting our organic goals."
Bord Bia CEO Jim O’Toole said:
“Flahavans have built impressive success in Korea. The brand is recognized as a healthy and wholesome option, and as a Gold Member of the Origin Green programme, Flahavans are ideally placed to present sustainable, high quality Irish food to the Korean consumer. Bord Bia recently carried out market research to better understand new ways for the Korean families to enjoy oat based products. Flahavans are using this insight to drive their future growth ambitions.”
This concluded a very successful trade mission, which included key political and trade meetings across a range of sectors including meat, oats, equine, animal feed and agritech.
The work of promoting Irish agri-food exports in Asia continues next week when Minister Martin Heydon will lead a significant trade mission to Malaysia and the Philippines.
