Typically, a working knowledge of the European School’s community language, other than English or Irish, is required. Knowledge of the language of the country of employment is particularly desirable. Spoken competence in this language will be assessed in an online interview. While a basic spoken competence in the candidate’s selected language is usually expected, if a candidate excels in every other respect at interview and commits to learning a vehicular or the host country language during their secondment to the European Schools, this will be looked upon favourably.
Teachers receive a salary paid by the Department of Education, which is pensionable under the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. This is supplemented by a European salary paid by the European Schools. Details of remuneration and allowances for teachers are available on the European Schools’ websitewww.eursc.eu . Each post is a secondment for a maximum term of nine years.
