A brief or short leave of absence from school for various circumstances and situations may arise throughout the school year, for example, for reasons of bereavement, force majeure, testifying as a witness in court etc. Such absences can be paid or unpaid / substitutable or non-substitutable.

Teachers or Special Needs Assistants must apply in writing directly to their current employer (i.e. Board of Management / Manager / Education and Training Board). Sufficient notice must be provided in accordance with the relevant circular.
