Special Funeral Grant (under the Occupational Injuries Benefit scheme)

What the Special Funeral Grant is

If someone dies at work, a special Funeral Grant is available under Injury Benefit.

The grant is paid at a single rate of €850.

How to qualify

To be eligible for this grant, the death must have resulted from:

  • an accident at work
  • an accident while travelling directly to or from work
  • an occupational disease

The person must have paid a minimum of one week's social insurance (PRSI).

Rate of payment

The grant is paid at a single rate of €850.

To apply, please complete the claim form at the bottom of this page.

To apply, you need:

  • the original death certificate or an interim death certificate
  • a copy of the death notice
  • a note of the funeral expenses
